What is the Best Way to Conceive a Boy?

Are you trying to get pregnant? Perhaps you already have 3 girls and this time around, you would like a boy. Or is this your first baby, perhaps your only baby, and you’ve decided that you would like to try for a boy.

There is no scientific evidence showing that doing certain things or eating certain foods will improve your chances of conceiving a boy, but it is certainly worth trying.

How Gender Selection Works

Let’s return to basic science class.

There are two types of sperm. Those which carry the X chromosome and those that carry the Y.  If the sperm carrying the X fertilizes the egg, it will be a girl. If the sperm carrying the Y chromosome fertilizes the egg, it will be a boy.

Contrary to those old myths, the woman does not determine the sex of the baby.

In fact, sperm that carry the X chromosome are stronger than the ones with the Y chromosome, which is why there are more females than males. However, the male sperm swim faster.

This all matters because we need to make the uterus more hospitable to the weaker Y sperm so it increases your chances of having a male child.

Increase Your Chances of Having a Boy

1. Position

It’s believed that deep penetration during sex helps increase the chances of the Y sperm, since they aren’t stronger swimmers.

The best positions that offer deeper penetration would be doggy style, the female on top, or standing up against a wall.

2. Timing of Your Cycle

While sperm can live inside the female for as long as 5 days, the chances are that the female sperm will live longer than male sperm.

This means that if you stop having sex about 4 days before you ovulate and start having sex every day 24 hours before ovulation and the day of ovulation, you can increase your chances of having a male child.

3. Time to Look at Your Partner’s Underwear

You might already be aware that a man’s underwear can affect his sperm production.

Boxer shorts are better for male sperm than Tightie-whities, as they keep the testicles cooler. This means more male sperm will live.

Even if your partner doesn’t like boxers, suggest that he wear them only until you become pregnant.

He should also refrain from taking hot baths, using hot tubs or Jacuzzi’s, and avoid steam rooms until you are pregnant.  Sperm can easily overheat in these environments and since male sperm are weaker, they will probably be the ones to die off first.

4. The Big O

Again, there is no science to back this up, but many people believe that an alkaline environment is more hospitable to a Y carrying sperm.

When a woman orgasms, there is an alkaline-based secretion released into the vagina.

So being certain that the female reaches orgasm before the male does is said to increase the chances of conceiving a male child.

You have nothing to lose, right?

5. Eating Right

Along the same lines as the above tip, if an alkaline environment is more welcoming to the male sperm, then some people believe that what you eat can make a difference.

Eat more fish, pasta, red meat, fresh fruit, and green vegetables. These are said to make the body more alkaline in nature.

Avoid eating shellfish, yogurt, milk, nuts, and cheese.
